Kohler Salone del Mobile: Kohler created an Artist Editions™ capsule collection premiering in Milan Design Week 2023 as part of their celebration of 150 years of art, color, and innovation. The limited-edition collection featured Kohler products as a canvas for original artwork by female artists from around the world. Hanging above the courtyard was a flowing art piece by Janet Echelman. 

The challenge was to design a space to bring these individually beautiful, yet disparate, pieces together. Design a harmonious and engaging in-person experience while respecting the fragile structure of the 17th-century Palazzo del Senato.

The solution came together with the design of a series of illuminated, shallow pools within the courtyard. A minimally magnificent large center pool flanked by four smaller pools. The surface of the water acted as a mirror, reflecting the Artist Editions products that were positioned to look as though they were floating on the surface. The pools also mirrored the flowing, colorful Echelman sculpture and the Palazzo itself. The result was a striking experience for the viewers. The Kohler team expertly built out the design, and the results were quite magical.
